Affiliations are issued by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada for MBBS and PG courses & recognized by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi.

The SVS Medical College was started in the year 1999 and is affiliated to the NTR Health University, Andhra Pradesh and is fully recognized by the Medical Council of India. It is one of the established medical schools in the area dedicated to producing new knowledge in the field of medical sciences, develop best practices in health care delivery and educate young and promising students to shape them as next-gen doctors and care givers committed to health care.

The MBBS Course

Course Duration:

Five academic years comprising the medical curriculum commencement to the date of completion of the examination followed by one year compulsory rotating Internship. The course begins with a short foundation course exposing students to basic principles of Communication, Ethics and Problem Based Learning. The Undergraduate course in Medicine comprises of three stages.

Three phases of the course :

Phase I1 Year, consisting of two terms of 6 months each
Phase II1 ½ years, consisting of three terms of 6 months each.
Phase III2 ½ years, after Phase-1, consisting of 7 terms.

The first year involves study of the Phase-1 (Pre-clinical) subjects:

  • Human Anatomy (650 hours)
  • Physiology including Bio Physics (480 hours)
  • Bio Chemistry (240 hours)
  • Introduction to Community Medicine (60 hours)

After passing the pre – clinical subjects in Phase-I the second phase starts.

Phase-II is divided into three terms: 1 ½ years each – devoted to Para Clinical and clinical subjects. Para clinical subjects shall consist of Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine including Toxicology and part of Community Medicine. During this phase, the clinical subjects shall be taught concurrently. The Clinical subjects taught will include: Medicine and its allied specialties, Surgery its allied specialties and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Phase-III consists of Community Medicine, and Clinical subjects – Medicine and its allied specialties, Surgery and its allied specialties, Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Transition to Practice (post 5 years):

This subject builds on the student’s prior knowledge and skills to develop the requisite skills for internship in three terms. In the trainee intern term students will become part of their allocated medical or surgical unit team and under their supervision take on all of the roles and responsibilities of an intern. In the vocational selective term students will increase their knowledge in a discipline of their choice. In the preparation for practice term the core skills of safe and effective patient management will be consolidated.

Clinical Placement:

Students are allocated to a clinical school for the final three years of the course. Acceptance of a place in the medical course indicates acceptance of subsequent clinical school placement.

Rural rotations:

Rural rotations are a required component of the course. All students undertake at least 2 months in rural clinical settings with the opportunity for more extended rural and regional experience.

Residential Internship:

The College has supervised clinical training Internship Programs prior to receiving the final degree.  This program has been adapted to satisfy the requirements of the profession. Once the internship is completed, one becomes eligible to enter residency.
